Shibori Denim Is Amazing

So this summer I had the amazing pleasure of getting to hand shibori dye white denim for a really awesome boutique in Thomasville, Georgia.  The boutique is called Spence and Lane and I recommend it to any female from the age of 18-100.  Kelly, the owner,  does an amazing buying job!  She has unique fashions that don’t break the budget and make women of every age look fantastic.  Getting to work for her on this Shibori project was so much fun and I look forward to next year when hopefully we will get to do more collaborations!

Below are some images of the denim as it was being dried and getting ready to be shipped and then at the shop and on Kelly!! Enjoy!

If you missed out this summer, just wait till the spring/summer 2018, I have a feeling we will be doing many more of these!

Update On Me

Hi friends, I am sorry to say things have been put on hold with Kathryn Marie Designs in terms of new designs and products.  This August I found out I have a mediastinal mass in my chest.  I have had two surgeries, one very invasive surgery that will take months for me to heal and be able to quilt and dye again.  I am still at a loss for a diagnosis and am currently undergoing more testing at an incredible hospital.   I am confident my Doctors will find out what exactly is going on and figure out a treatment plan.

For the meantime my life consists of Netflix and books in bed or in my living room and hospital visits.  My shop is still open however, please feel free to purchase anything and if you see a piece on Instagram just message me about it, it may be for sale just
not up on my site!

I will also have a ton of wallhangings, table runners, scarves, quilts and blankets  all hand dyed and hand designed by me available at Charlevoix Circle of Arts from November 17-December 23rd.  Opening night is Friday, November 17th at 5PM.  See you there!

Spring Sewing

It seems like it has been a non-stop spring season.  I know this is because I have been extremely busy with sewing commissions for individual customers and for my summer stockists so I haven’t had time to slow day and watch Spring happen.  Don’t misunderstand me though, I absolutely love nothing more than to be swamped with commission work! Below are a few of my favorite individual commission projects I have been working on this Spring season.  I hope you enjoy, and don’t forget if you see something you love just contact me and I can always make more!

The quilt and wallhanging below were commissioned for an Eagle Scout and his father who was the Master of the troop.  I had never sewn so many patches before and completely became obsessed with them!  I didn’t have a lot of t-shirts to work with so it is fantastic that I had so many patches to place around the shirt logos.  I hope to get more fun commissions in the future that require the sewing of embroidered patches!

The quilt with the absolutely adorable little boy on it was made specially for my two dear friends who live in Australia and their newborn Maxwell.  I over-dyed a mint fabric for the backing in indigo.  The front of the quilt is one of my custom designed patterns which is available in my spoonflower shop,  I hand quilted and machine quilted this whole cloth quilt.  Watch my Instagram and Etsy sites this summer, I plan on making a lot more whole cloth baby quilts to sell.

Below is a reversible quilted cover to a hope chest.  This piece was amazingly fun to design.   I hand dyed all the fabric then, true to form, I laid out the pieces a million different ways until I found a design that the client loved as much as I did!

These are just a few snippets into what I have been working on this spring!  I finally bought a new laptop and will be updating my gallery page as soon as my current quilt commissions are complete!  I will also be working on blogging much more often, so make sure to check back often!
