Dyeing Wedding Linens

This winter I was so honored to do the linens for my step-sisters wedding!  I hand dyed over 200 napkins and 6 table runners/curtains.   Her wedding had a modern boho, dreamy beach vibe and my linens made the theme really shine.  I couldn’t be more happy that she hired me to do them.  I would love to do more wedding linens if anyone out there on the blog world wants to hire me!    Below are a few pictures you can browse through from the wedding.

So, I am so serious, if anyone out there wants or knows of someone who wants amazing hand dyed Shibori table linens (any color) for a party or wedding, send them my way! I had a ball doing this!

Sew Much Dyeing Going On!

Forgive me for not posting recently, somehow I find myself always saying I will do a blog post and then I get side tracked with dyeing fabric or sewing more quilts!  I promise to keep you informed though!

A couple weekends ago I was so lucky to teach a two day Intro to Shibori dye class at Charlevoix Circle of Arts in Charlevoix, Michigan.   I had an amazing class, my students asked tons of great questions and really took my advice and ended up making some gorgeous pieces!

The first day I devoted to teaching them about 4 basic Japanese resist techniques.  Everyone got to practice on cotton fabric and I got to go around the class and help out so they really understood where the resist would be and where the dye would take on each fabric.

The second day the students took what they learned from the first day and really explored with unique methods of resisting fabric.  They also brought in clothing and pillow cases to dye.  It was a really wonderful weekend.

Two of my students from the class hired me to make their dyed pieces into blankets!  They turned out so beautiful and I am pretty sure they couldn’t be more happy with the work that they produced!

I will be teaching more classes this fall.  Look for updates here and on my Facebook or Instagram!

Spring Sewing

It seems like it has been a non-stop spring season.  I know this is because I have been extremely busy with sewing commissions for individual customers and for my summer stockists so I haven’t had time to slow day and watch Spring happen.  Don’t misunderstand me though, I absolutely love nothing more than to be swamped with commission work! Below are a few of my favorite individual commission projects I have been working on this Spring season.  I hope you enjoy, and don’t forget if you see something you love just contact me and I can always make more!

The quilt and wallhanging below were commissioned for an Eagle Scout and his father who was the Master of the troop.  I had never sewn so many patches before and completely became obsessed with them!  I didn’t have a lot of t-shirts to work with so it is fantastic that I had so many patches to place around the shirt logos.  I hope to get more fun commissions in the future that require the sewing of embroidered patches!

The quilt with the absolutely adorable little boy on it was made specially for my two dear friends who live in Australia and their newborn Maxwell.  I over-dyed a mint fabric for the backing in indigo.  The front of the quilt is one of my custom designed patterns which is available in my spoonflower shop,  I hand quilted and machine quilted this whole cloth quilt.  Watch my Instagram and Etsy sites this summer, I plan on making a lot more whole cloth baby quilts to sell.

Below is a reversible quilted cover to a hope chest.  This piece was amazingly fun to design.   I hand dyed all the fabric then, true to form, I laid out the pieces a million different ways until I found a design that the client loved as much as I did!

These are just a few snippets into what I have been working on this spring!  I finally bought a new laptop and will be updating my gallery page as soon as my current quilt commissions are complete!  I will also be working on blogging much more often, so make sure to check back often!
